It’s easy to look at likes, views, reach… and feel It’s easy to look at likes, views, reach… and feel like nothing much is happening. But there’s a whole other layer to it that doesn’t show up there. People checking your page before they enquire. People recognising your name because they’ve seen you a few times. People getting a feel for what you do without ever interacting. That’s the bit that’s harder to measure. And often the bit that actually matters most. It doesn’t mean engagement isn’t important, but it’s not the full picture. So even if it feels quiet, it doesn’t mean it’s not working. If time’s tight, keep it simple. Share one thing that reflects what you do, post it, and move on.

They hear about you somewhere else, then they look you up. They’ll scroll your page, see if you’re active, get a feel for you… and that’s what helps them decide. So even if it’s not bringing in work directly, it’s still playing a part. That’s why we still do it. It’s just that you’re trying to come up with something new every time, and you don't need to! Most businesses are saying the same things over and over, just in slightly different ways. If you’re stuck, start with this. Think about what you’ve already said to a client recently. A question you’ve answered, something you’ve explained, or a conversation you’ve had. That's it. That’s your post.

But when you’re running a business, you don’t have hours to spend on one caption. Most of the time, the posts that work aren’t the ones you’ve laboured over. They’re the ones where you’ve said one thing clearly and just got it out. It’s a balance. You still want it to make sense and reflect your business properly, but it doesn’t need to be perfect. And it definitely doesn’t need to take half your day. If you’ve got 10 minutes, use it. The Female Mentoring Alliance is raising money for The Female Mentoring Alliance is raising money for Your Sanctuary, a charity supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse. One month. Three ways to make a difference. One of the initiatives is a charity auction made up of services donated by women in business — that’s the bit we’re part of. We’ve added two things into the auction: a 5-hour admin support package and a three-month social media package. This charity’s work is close to our hearts, so we’re really glad to be able to contribute in a small way. If you’re in a position to bid, or even just share, it all contributes to something that really matters. After a day of doing everyone elses social media, we hardly ever look at ours! But we are making a conscious effort to practice what we preach, and this is how. → Set aside 2 hours → Write a handful of posts based on questions we’re always asked or things that come up with clients → Get them scheduled → Set a calendar reminder a week before they run out - repeat! Getting started is always the hardest part, but you will feel so much better once you do. Who needs to get back to their socials? #UKVirtualAssistant
